Online Reputation Management or ORM is a type of service, sort of an Online P.R. that started in the U.S. sometime in 2005. Online Reputation Management is simply monitoring the Internet search engines for negative write ups and employing SEO techniques to push these negative write-ups down in the search engine rankings and replace these with positive articles on top of the search engine list.

(long before the term Online Reputation Management was coined here in the Philippines) when the service was first launched on an actual case (the Maria Hazel Ann Solis Case) involving a businessman who was unfairly maligned by an impersonator who created a blogger account under his/her victim's name and posted therein libelous articles in a form of self-confessed sexual stories about her alleged illicit affairs. This is a clear case of identity theft. Somebody impersonating her and blogging about her own sexual, illicit affairs to malign the reputation of the real person target of the blog account.

The Maria Hazel Ann Solis Case started when her namesake, a beautiful actress accidentally made a "nipple slip" sometime in April 2008 and was reported at the philstar website in April 9, 2008. There was a frenzy search for her picture with the Keyword Hazel Ann (family name withheld) by netizens and a search for Google with such keywords would show the malicious blog site on top of the Google Search Engine with a libelous caption (title).

The incident was reported to us by the lawyer of Hazel Ann Solis sometime in the September that year. Jimeno.net (thru the first Online Cyber Crime Complaint Center portal, cybercrimecomplaintcenter.com) immediately drafted a letter for Google, USA and sent by the lawyer of Hazel Ann Solis to the former via fax. We also sent letters to Google USA through email to (1) de-list the blogsite from their search engine and (2) terminate the blog account (blog service owned by an affiliate of Google USA, blogger.com).

While waiting for Google's action, we created friendly sites for Hazel Ann Solis and pushed the malicious blog site down and several pages away from the top 30 ranking. Finally, we were referred to by Google USA to Google Finland and the malicious blog site was finally terminated sometime in November that same year.

To date, three years after the incident, the Online Reputation of Maria Hazel Ann Solis is still shielded from malicious attacks.
